From out of the blue, Vijay Sethupathy has silently but surely become the ‘safe bet’ of small and medium budget film producers in Kollywood. Vijay Sethupathy, who started his career with an insignificant role in Sibiraj’s Lee, had also essayed minor roles in hit films such as M Kumaran S/o Mahalakshmi and Pudhupettai.
After a somewhat ‘major’ role in Suseenthiran Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, Sethupathy hit big time when he got the offer to play the lead role in director Seenu Ramasamy’s award-winning Thenmerku Paruvakaatru.
He then played the main villain in Sasikumar’s Sundarapandian and soon followed it up with Pizza and Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom where he played lead roles. The hat-trick of hits with these three films made cine-goers and critics to sit up and take notice of this rugged-looking yet talented guy. Soodhu Kavvum, his latest film which released last week, has also become a rage among youths with its comic content.
Success of Soodhu Kavvum has put Vijay firmly on the road to stardom as he has as many as seven films on hand. Vijay assures that not only the titles but also the scripts of all these films would be refreshing and entertaining.
Vijay also has made it a point to ensure that his films are directed not by popular directors but by first-timers and wannabe directors. The confidence he has managed to instill in them is immeasurable and he sure deserves a pat on the back for choosing small and medium-budget films and inexperienced yet talented film-makers.
