In a statement issued in the public interest, the Chennai Police has asked the members of the public to beware of the cheating tricks adapted by the self-styled ‘power star’ Srinivasan. The lengthy statement reads thus: Srinivasan, hailing from Simmakkal in Madurai, is an arts graduate who then secured a degree in acupuncture treatment via distance education course from a Chinese university and started practicing as a doctor.
“He runs a hospital in Chennai and is married to Vijaya of Madurai. He later deserted her and is living with a woman named Julie in Chennai’s Anna Nagar locality. In order to fulfill his aspirations of becoming an actor, he started Baba Trading Company, a financial institution, and has cheated many customers. He is used to lure his customers by promising them huge amounts of loans on 10-20% commission basis.
“So far, he has cheated many to the tune of Rs.8 crores. Srinivasan has many brokers at his disposal who get in touch with industrialists and others in need of huge loans. Srinivasan would promise them of the loan, and takes the commission as security deposit in cash and give a them post dated cheque which is sure to bounce. Using the money he gets through commission, he runs his trading company and also has made films such as Lathika, Desiya Nedunchalai, Indrasena and Anandha Thollai.
“He has also acquired many real estate properties in his name in Saligramam and Anna Nagar. Investigations are on and all his bank accounts have been confiscated. Some notable cheating by Srinivasan include Ranganathan from Ongole (on whose complaint he was arrested), Jagadish Singh from Chandigarh and Prakash J. Rathore from Coimbatore besides advocate Jagannathan from Chennai.
“Various complaints have been filed separately against Srinivasan and investigations are on in all these cases. Public are hereby warned not to pay any more money to Srinivasan or any one related to him” the notice concluded.
