It is strongly rumoured in Kollywood circles that Suriya, elder brother of actor Karthi, is ‘remote-controlling’ his younger sibling when it comes to accepting/rejecting movie offers. It is said that producers and directors, who want to sign up Karthi in their films, are to narrate the story at least ‘twice’ before getting to meet with Karthi. Though married, Suriya and Karthi stay as a joint family and live at their father and veteran actor Sivakumar’s Chennai residence.
While Suriya has firmly moved into the top bracket, Karthi’s rise to the top had been somehow arrested with the no-show of his last two films in Saguni and Alex Pandian. Karthi, who is getting ready for two big releases this year in Venkat Prabhu’s Biriyani and Suseenthiran’s All In All Azhagu Raja, hopes to set the record straight.
Earlier, Karthi had at his disposal a team which would listen to the script narrated by the director. The director’s narration would be shot on video and Karthi would watch the video, take suggestions from the team and then make up his mind whether or not to take up a film offer. The situation, however, appears to have changed in recent times in a drastic manner.
It turns out that Suriya chooses the scripts for his younger brother. The director would first have to narrate the story to the team, then to Suriya and finally to Karthi, if he is allowed a chance to meet him. As such, filmmakers are not so happy with all the channels they have to go through before getting to meet and talk to Karthi.
